GIGRISK is a research project proposal about gig workers employed in the food delivery industry that will be entered into the upcoming 2026 competition of the IRIS-COFUND project, which is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101217407.
Summary
Through an analysis of online food delivery service rider and driver accounts of the incidents they have had in the past, information on their trips after an incident, and the way they rationalize their decisions to reject of pick up an order, my plan is to generate a qualitative map of how they adapt the routes they take in upcoming deliveries. I also want to know if the decisions on whether to avoid certain streets or areas of the city to cope are different across genders or if all riders use the same coping mechanisms.
The goal is to assess if there are any differences in how emotional strain affects how riders and drivers plan their routes. I also want to know if they avoid any streets, locations, or reject orders that will take them through areas of the city where they had a negative experience.
